TAG launches Special Interest Group on Security- First meeting on May 13 on "How to Prevent Laptop Data Breaches"

TAG is launching a new special interest group (SIG) for people that are interested in advancing their knowledge about information technology security. The group plans to meet on a regular basis and offer the opportunity for IT professionals and business people with an interest in computer security an opportunity to extend their technical knowledge, and develop and maintain professional contacts in the field. The first meeting features a presentation by the leader of the TAG Security SIG, Bart Pestarino, and will be held on May 13 at 1PM-2PM at the City of Bellingham, Fireplace room. This presentation focuses on applying Security 2.0 principles specifically to the laptop.  This one-hour session will address administrative, technical, and physical security aspects such as:

- Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Policy
- Laptop interactions with networks and devices
- endpoint protection and data loss prevention, Network Access Control (NAC), network monitoring and prevention
- Relationship between an organization's information classification system and laptop data breaches
- Encryption options
- GPS tracking for laptops
- Access control - logical & physical
- Outsourcing situations
- End of lifecycle/decommission laptop

About the Presenter:

The founder and leader of the TAG Security SIG, Bart Pestarino, serves clients in matters of data protection, privacy, and data loss prevention (DLP). He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), holds several Symantec credentials, and has a Master's degree, as well as Board Certification, in security management.  Bart was Co-Founder & EVP of ALLDATA SHREDDING INC., the leading Pacific Northwest information security firm specializing in information destruction, including secure hard drive destruction, micromedia destruction, and document shredding. Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credits:

TAG Security SIG events qualify for continuing professional education (CPE) credits from organizations such as ISACA, ISC2, ASIS Int'l, and IAPP. For ISACA, TAG Security SIG event attendees earn CPEs under "Non-ISACA professional education activities and meetings". Time spent preparing a presentation for a TAG Security SIG event counts for CPE credits under "Teaching/lecturing/presenting". For ISC2, TAG Security SIG events fall under "Direct Information Systems Security Acitivities [Group A Credits]". Time spent preparing a presentation for a TAG Security SIG event counts for Group A CPE credits as well. For ASIS Int'l, presenters and attendees earn CPEs under "Attending or speaking/teaching at function-specific seminars, workshops and academic courses".  For IAPP, "Continuing privacy education (CPE) is defined as any program, event, forum, book, presentation, course of instruction or speaking engagement that relates specifically to information privacy, information security, information auditing, legal compliance or risk management whether or not this is provided, published or hosted by the IAPP."
